It is National Coffee day, and there are some stories a brewing from our favorite places to grab our java.  

First, Dunkin’ Donuts has decided to permanently drop “Donuts” from its name, effective January 2019.  Why? In a press release from September 25, Tony Weisman, Chief Marketing Officer, Dunkin’ U.S. said, “By simplifying and modernizing our name, while still paying homage to our heritage, we have an opportunity to create an incredible new energy for Dunkin’, both in and outside our stores.  We are bringing the iconic name Dunkin’ to the forefront in a bold way that brings to life how we refill optimism with each cup and bring fun, joy and delight to our customers each and every day.” a

But never you fear!  The brand might be dropping “Donuts” from the name, but they still plan to remain America’s #1 seller of the sweet, fried goodness that is donuts.

Today you can expect to get a buy one get one free hot coffee when you visit Dunkin’.  They are also running a few other promotions that you can check out at the link below.b

Next, you might think Starbucks would be jumping on the bandwagon to give out free coffee, but that is not the case.  Instead they have decided to amp up their philanthropic efforts, donating $20 million to temporarily relieve impacted smallholder farmers until the market becomes more stable.c

National Chocolate Milk Day!

It’s National Chocolate Milk Day!

According to a good ole Google search, September 27 is national Chocolate day.

The drink was invented by a botanist named Hans Sloane in the 1680’s while studying in Jamaica .  It is said that the locals were accustomed to drinking cacao mixed with water, but when it was offered to Sloan he did not like it very much.  He then mixed the cocoa in milk and found that much better!a

Here are some quick facts about chocolate milk:

  1. It has about 5 mg of caffeine per 8 ounces when using the Hershey recipe.b
  2. It has been touted as a great post-workout recovery drink due to the carb to protein ratio and the electrolytes it offers.  Studies have even been done on this!c
  3. Milk has 9 essential nutrients: calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, protein, riboflavin, niacin and vitamins A, B12 and D.d
